Hulu is going to be rolling out a new ad format for video which allows a user to select which ad they want to watch from a selection of related ads. Seems like a win-win for everyone, I think we can expect to see this format rolling out across other similar sites. I can’t think of any other platform which allows users to select between ads but this could potentially work elsewhere, it’s certainly an interesting concept:

This commercial entitled “Parisian Love” was aired by Google during the 2010 Superbowl. It’s the first time the company has broadcast an ad on TV, and also the first time Google has advertised their brand, having been previously opposed to doing so. It’s a touching video, very well done. Perhaps Bing is having a larger impact than I expected? Eric Schmidt (CEO) explained:

“If you watched the Super Bowl this evening you’ll have seen a video from Google called “Parisian Love”. In fact you might have watched it before, because it’s been on YouTube for over three months. We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search. Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.

If you like it too, we hope you’ll watch the others. Enjoy.”
